Ti 89 help!!!! please?

I was trying to do an augmented matrix with no avail. Anyway, no every time I try an enter something into my Calculator it says "Error: non-algebraic variable" It wasn't doing this before. Did I change its mode or is it still in matrix mode? I have to study tonight and I need this thing.
