Will 3d Blu ray player upgrade standard dvds into 3d and therefore be able to be watched in 3dtv?

No. Regular (2D) movies CAN be reprocessed to a pseudo form of 3D, but only with complex professional equipment (available to studios). 3D capable Blu-ray players won't do it. That's one reason why it's way too early to buy into 3D. Note that even when everything works 3D image quality suffers relative to HD. Many don't seem to care, but then they are the ones who want to watch movies on their iPhone.
